Terms of service

Yes. I would replace the generic Shopify Terms of Service with a Furnace Design Lab-specific version, rather than just adding a few sentences. The Shopify template you uploaded is a strong legal framework, but parts of it do not fit FDL—for example, it currently says purchases are for personal/household use and not commercial resale, even though your site is specifically designed for businesses, bulk merchandise, organizations, schools, and brands. Pasted markdown

I would also keep Shopify's relationship language intact, since the template itself specifically says that section should not be removed or modified. Pasted markdown

Below is the edited version I would paste into Shopify → Settings → Policies → Terms of Service.

SECTION 3 — ORDERS

When you submit an order, you are making an offer to purchase products or services from Furnace Design Lab.

Furnace Design Lab reserves the right to accept, decline, modify, or cancel an order when reasonably necessary.

An order is not considered accepted until payment has been processed and Furnace Design Lab has accepted the order.

Unless otherwise agreed in writing for an approved commercial account, payment must be received before production begins.

Customers are responsible for reviewing all order details before submitting an order.

This includes:

  • Product
  • Quantity
  • Size
  • Color
  • Artwork
  • Personalization
  • Names
  • Dates
  • Numbers
  • Design placement

  • Events
  • Fundraisers
  • Corporate programs
  • Employee merchandise

SECTION 4 — CUSTOM AND PERSONALIZED ORDERS

Many Furnace Design Lab products are made specifically for the customer.

Custom products may include apparel, personalized merchandise, gang sheets, signs, engraved products, UV products, sublimation products, 3D-printed products, promotional products, business merchandise, and specialty projects.

Customers are responsible for submitting correct:

  • Names
  • Spelling
  • Dates
  • Numbers
  • Sizes
  • Quantities
  • Colors
  • Logos
  • Artwork
  • Personalization

Once production begins, alterations cannot be guaranteed.

Because custom products are manufactured specifically for the customer, they are generally final sale, except where otherwise provided in our Refund Policy or required by law.

SECTION 5 — ARTWORK AND CUSTOMER-SUPPLIED CONTENT

Customers may upload logos, photographs, graphics, designs, text, trademarks, illustrations, or other content.

By submitting content to Furnace Design Lab, you represent that:

  1. You own the content; or
  2. You have authorization to reproduce and use the content.

Customers may not knowingly submit copyrighted, trademarked, licensed, or otherwise protected content without appropriate authorization.

Furnace Design Lab may decline an order if we reasonably believe submitted artwork infringes another person's intellectual property rights.

Customers remain responsible for obtaining necessary permissions and licenses.

Submitting customer-owned artwork to Furnace Design Lab does not transfer ownership of that artwork to Furnace Design Lab.

SECTION 6 — ARTWORK QUALITY

Customers uploading artwork are responsible for supplying suitable files.

Print quality may be affected by:

  • Low resolution
  • Pixelation
  • Compression
  • Incorrect dimensions
  • Improper transparency
  • Poor background removal
  • Incorrect file preparation
  • Excessive enlargement

Furnace Design Lab may provide automated or manual quality warnings.

However, the absence of a warning does not guarantee perfect output.

If artwork requires cleanup, recreation, vectorization, background removal, color correction, or other professional design preparation, additional charges may apply.

SECTION 7 — DESIGN SERVICES

Furnace Design Lab may provide custom graphic design, artwork preparation, branding, and creative services.

Unless expressly included in the purchased service, payment for a design does not automatically include:

  • Editable source files
  • Working files
  • Templates
  • Production files
  • Fonts
  • Licensed assets
  • Internal design resources

The deliverable included with a design service will be determined by the product or service purchased.

Exclusive ownership, editable files, or intellectual-property assignments must be specifically agreed upon separately.

SECTION 8 — MOCKUPS, PROOFS AND APPROVALS

Certain products may include a digital proof or mockup.

Mockups are visual representations and may not perfectly reflect the finished physical product.

Before approving a proof, customers must review:

  • Spelling
  • Names
  • Dates
  • Numbers
  • Artwork
  • Colors
  • Dimensions
  • Quantities
  • Placement
  • Personalization

Selecting Approve, providing written approval, or otherwise authorizing production constitutes authorization for Furnace Design Lab to manufacture the order.

Customer approval is authorization to produce.

After approval, changes may not be possible.

If Furnace Design Lab can accommodate a requested change after approval, additional charges may apply.

Furnace Design Lab is not responsible for customer-approved errors that were reasonably visible on the approved proof.

SECTION 9 — GANG SHEET BUILDER

Furnace Design Lab may provide a digital Gang Sheet Builder for DTF and related production.

Customers using the builder are responsible for verifying:

  • Artwork
  • Quantity
  • Size
  • Placement
  • Spacing
  • Transparency
  • Resolution
  • Orientation
  • Final sheet layout

Automated placement or nesting tools are provided for convenience.

The customer is responsible for reviewing the final sheet before submitting the order.

Resolution warnings or quality indicators are informational tools and do not constitute a guarantee of final print quality.

Once a gang sheet has entered production, it cannot generally be modified or canceled.

Gang sheets are custom-manufactured items and are final sale except for verified Furnace Design Lab manufacturing errors or defects.

SECTION 10 — BUSINESS MERCH CREATOR

Furnace Design Lab may provide a Business Merch Creator that allows businesses and organizations to configure custom merchandise programs.

Customers may submit:

  • Business logos
  • Brand colors
  • Employee names
  • Departments
  • Garment sizes
  • Personalization
  • Product quantities
  • CSV files
  • Spreadsheets
  • Rosters

The customer is responsible for ensuring submitted information is accurate.

Furnace Design Lab is not responsible for errors originating from inaccurate customer-supplied spreadsheets, rosters, employee information, or other submitted data.

SECTION 11 — FDL BRAND VAULT

Approved business customers may have access to an FDL Brand Vault.

A Brand Vault may contain:

  • Logos
  • Brand colors
  • Saved designs
  • Approved artwork
  • Products
  • Previous merchandise
  • Print placements
  • Employee information
  • Reorder information

Customers should review Brand Vault information before reordering.

Previous availability does not guarantee that the exact same product, material, garment manufacturer, blank, color, or supplier will remain available indefinitely.

Where appropriate, Furnace Design Lab may recommend a comparable replacement.

SECTION 12 — AI TOOLS AND FDL AI CONCIERGE

Furnace Design Lab may provide artificial intelligence-powered tools including:

  • FDL AI Design Concierge
  • Product recommendations
  • Artwork assistance
  • Design suggestions
  • Customization guidance
  • Business merchandise assistance
  • Order assistance
  • Artwork quality analysis
  • Customer service

AI-generated responses should be considered assistance rather than a final production guarantee.

Customers are responsible for reviewing AI-generated designs, recommendations, text, names, spelling, facts, and product selections.

AI tools may occasionally produce inaccurate or incomplete information.

Final pricing, inventory, product availability, production capabilities, turnaround times, and manufacturing decisions are governed by Furnace Design Lab's actual systems, written quotes, invoices, product pages, and authorized representatives.

If AI-generated information conflicts with an official order document or written Furnace Design Lab communication, the official Furnace Design Lab information controls.

SECTION 13 — PRICES AND BILLING

Prices, promotions, discounts, and product availability may change without notice.

The price charged will ordinarily be the price in effect when the order is submitted.

Unless otherwise stated, product prices may not include:

  • Sales tax
  • Shipping
  • Rush charges
  • Design services
  • Specialty materials
  • Additional customization
  • Import charges
  • Other separately disclosed fees

You agree to provide complete and accurate billing and payment information.

You represent that you are authorized to use the payment method submitted.

SECTION 14 — BULK AND BUSINESS ORDERS

Bulk, corporate, school, team, organization, event, and business merchandise orders may require additional confirmation.

Customers are responsible for reviewing final:

  • Product selections
  • Sizes
  • Quantities
  • Colors
  • Employee names
  • Artwork
  • Print placement
  • Personalization
  • Delivery requirements

Special-order inventory or materials purchased specifically for a customer may become noncancelable once ordered.

Approved business accounts may be subject to separately negotiated commercial terms.

SECTION 15 — RUSH SERVICES

Rush production may be offered depending on:

  • Production capacity
  • Product availability
  • Material availability
  • Equipment availability
  • Project complexity
  • Required completion date

A rush order is not accepted until Furnace Design Lab expressly approves it.

Choosing expedited shipping does not automatically accelerate manufacturing.

Rush charges may apply.

Once rush production begins, rush charges are generally nonrefundable.

SECTION 16 — PRODUCTION TURNAROUND

Production turnaround begins only after all applicable requirements have been completed.

These may include:

  • Payment received
  • Artwork received
  • Required product details received
  • Proof approval
  • Customer information received
  • Materials available

Production estimates do not include carrier transit time unless specifically stated.

Turnaround dates are estimates unless Furnace Design Lab provides a written guaranteed completion date.

SECTION 17 — SHIPPING AND DELIVERY

Shipping and delivery times are estimates.

Furnace Design Lab is not responsible for unreasonable delays caused by circumstances outside our control, including:

  • Shipping carriers
  • Weather
  • Natural disasters
  • Customs
  • Supplier delays
  • Transportation disruptions

Customers are responsible for providing a correct shipping address.

Production time and shipping time are separate.

Additional shipping information is governed by our Shipping Policy.

SECTION 18 — LOCAL PICKUP

When local pickup is available, customers must wait for confirmation that the order is ready.

An estimated completion date does not mean the order is automatically available for pickup.

Customers may be required to provide their order number or identification.

SECTION 19 — RETURNS, REFUNDS AND EXCHANGES

Custom merchandise is generally final sale because it is manufactured specifically for the customer.

Returns or exchanges are generally not available for:

  • Incorrect size selected by customer
  • Incorrect spelling supplied by customer
  • Incorrect personalization supplied by customer
  • Customer change of mind
  • Customer-approved proof errors
  • Customer-supplied low-quality artwork
  • Normal manufacturing variation

If Furnace Design Lab makes a verified production error or the product contains a qualifying manufacturing defect, customers should notify Furnace Design Lab in accordance with our Refund Policy.

We may require photographs or other documentation.

When Furnace Design Lab confirms responsibility, we may provide an appropriate remedy, including repair, reproduction, replacement, store credit, or refund as appropriate.

Nothing in these Terms eliminates any consumer right that cannot legally be waived.

SECTION 20 — CANCELLATIONS

Cancellation requests should be submitted as soon as possible.

An order may become partially or fully nonrefundable once:

  • Artwork development begins
  • Production files are prepared
  • Materials are ordered
  • Blank products are ordered
  • Printing begins
  • Pressing begins
  • Engraving begins
  • UV production begins
  • Sublimation begins
  • 3D printing begins
  • Other manufacturing begins

Nonrecoverable costs may be deducted from an approved refund.

SECTION 21 — CUSTOMER-SUPPLIED PRODUCTS

Furnace Design Lab may occasionally agree to customize customer-supplied merchandise.

Printing, heating, pressing, engraving, cutting, UV printing, sublimation, and other manufacturing processes contain inherent production risk.

Materials may react unpredictably to:

  • Heat
  • Pressure
  • Lasers
  • Coatings
  • Ink
  • Adhesives
  • Processing

Customers should not provide irreplaceable, sentimental, rare, or unusually valuable merchandise without discussing the project with Furnace Design Lab first.

SECTION 22 — 3D-PRINTED PRODUCTS

3D-printed products may contain normal additive-manufacturing characteristics, including:

  • Layer lines
  • Seam marks
  • Support marks
  • Minor surface variation
  • Minor dimensional variation

These characteristics are not automatically considered defects.

Unless Furnace Design Lab specifically agrees otherwise in writing, products are not certified for:

  • Medical applications
  • Life-safety use
  • Aerospace applications
  • Structural engineering
  • High-load applications
  • Regulated food-contact applications
  • Other safety-critical purposes

SECTION 23 — ENGRAVED AND NATURAL MATERIALS

Natural materials such as wood, leather, stone, or similar products may contain variation in:

  • Grain
  • Shade
  • Texture
  • Knots
  • Surface composition

These variations can affect engraving results.

Natural variation is not considered a manufacturing defect.

SECTION 24 — INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

The Furnace Design Lab website and Services, including logos, trademarks, graphics, text, images, interface designs, product photography, video, software, tools, original designs, and branding, are owned by Furnace Design Lab or its licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

Furnace Design Lab's logos, names, slogans, and branding may not be reproduced or used without authorization.

Nothing in these Terms grants a license to Furnace Design Lab intellectual property except as expressly stated.

SECTION 25 — OPTIONAL THIRD-PARTY TOOLS

Sections intended by their nature to survive termination will remain effective.

SECTION 37 — DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Furnace Design Lab's Services are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis except for warranties expressly provided by Furnace Design Lab or required by law.

Where permitted by law, Furnace Design Lab's liability relating to a specific transaction will not exceed the amount paid to Furnace Design Lab for the product or service giving rise to the claim.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability where such limitation is prohibited by law.
